Key scriptures on discipleship

Four places to begin.

Matthew 28:19 to 20

The call to make disciples

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..." Every follower of Jesus is invited to help others know Him.

John 13:34 to 35

Love is the mark

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you..." Love is how people recognise a disciple.

Luke 9:23

Following Jesus daily

"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me." Discipleship is an everyday choice.

Acts 2:42

Growing together

"And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers." We grow best in community.

Core attributes of discipleship

What growing looks like.

Trust in Jesus

Disciples build their lives on the grace of God and the truth of His Word. Faith is the foundation for the whole journey.

Community

Taking part in a church family and a small group helps us grow, and strengthens the bonds between us.

Lifelong learning

Disciples keep coming back to Scripture for deeper understanding, and then help others do the same.
